You installed a new tree or shrub, how often should I water it?

There is no one answer for this question - different plants require different ammounts of water. However, we will explain to you how to tell when to water your newly installed trees and shrubs, how to tell when its overwatered, and what the best times for watering are.

Weather is one of the single most determinate factors for when, and how often, you will need to water. If there has been an exceptionally dry (little rain) season, your plants will need more water than usual. Wind can also dry out soil very quickly.

Flowering plants will require more water, as well as those planted on slopes, and those that are in the process of producing fruit.

Wilted plants are typically a sign of a need for water, but, be careful because the plant may be telling you that it is being overwatered. In order to determine which is the case, stick your finger, or a soil probe, atleast 2" into the ground. If you detect moisture, then do not water. If the ground is dry, or cracked, water accordingly.

Avoid watering during the heat of the day to ensure that your plant is getting the optimal ammount of water (and not losing water to evaporation).
